FA Vase Second Round Proper

FC Clacton Vs St Ives Town FC

The long awaited FA Vase tie on the coast is finally here as the Saints take the two hour coach journey South to take on FC Clacton. The winner of this tie will go into the draw for Monday lunchtime and will also pocket £1,200 in prize money. In the event of a draw after 90 minutes then the replay is likely to be played here at Westwood Road on Tuesday evening next week.

There has been much talk over the last 24/48 hours as to whether or not the game will actually go ahead. Our advice is to log on to the website and see if there is any news of a cancellation. Otherwise please assume that the game is on !!

Those who are travelling by coach need to be reminded to arrive on time to prevent any unavoidable delay.

Saints Co Manager spoke to the website this morning and gave us this update

"We are faced with a tough 2nd round tie tomorrow (weather permitting), at FC Clacton. They are a very good side, riding high in their league, scoring lots of goals and conceding very few. However, we are a good side on a great run of form, we are very hard to beat, and are now scoring plenty of goals, so the lads will go into the game full of confidence. Theres something about the Vase that the lads (and Woz) love, so we are expecting the type of performance that saw us win at Stanway, Kirkley, Romford. Gorleston, Leiston and Long Buckby over the past two seasons. Most of the those performances we have shown great character and a will to win, in tight games. If this is evident tomorrow, im sure we will win the game, anything less and it will be tough.

We would like to thank Simon Clark, Neville and Sheldon for already making the trip to Clacton, and compiling useful information on our opponents. Hopefully, this will help us in to the hat, for Mondays draw.
We are hearing how many people are going out of the way, tomorrow to support us, and we thank you for that. I hope we are all celebrating tomorrow night."

Ridgeions Youth League - West Division

St Ives Town U18 2 St Neots Town 1

Att 125

On a wet Thursday evening the young Saints of St Ives Town produced a fantastic display to take all three points in this awaited derby match at Westwood Road. Joel Marshall and Leon Schwier had great opportunites for St Ives but it was a Jamie Saunders close range finish after a deep corner from Schwier that finally broke the deadlock. Jack Warwick levelled the scores shortly before the break when he saw his low well driven strike goes past Josh White in the home goal. On the hour the home side took the lead when Ben Yeomans stepped up to calmly place past the in form St Neots keeper. The scores stayed at 2-1 and with St Ives producing yet another fine display it left the Manager; Darnell Dodd happy with the result. "I felt we could and maybe should had more tonight. Their keeper made some great saves to keep the score down" Darnell added "Tonight we are going to give the Man of the Match award to the whole squad - everyone involved tonight were outstanding"

Desborough Town 0    St Ives Town 1

Man of the Match : Dan Moyes

A reshaped Saints side travelled to Desborough for the second time in this round of the League Knock Out Cup and ran out out 1-0 winners with a goal by Tim Quy. A Carl Foreman corner found Quy with the space to head home after only 17 minutes. Jez Hall told the website "They(Desborough) played some better football than they did last time we played them but once again we felt we deserved the win. We changed things about for this game and the players who came in certainly did a great job for us tonight" he added "Our supporters were fantastic too and turned up in their numbers again for us"

4 DAYS TO GO !!!!

(new poll just released on the homepage)

Jez Hall talks to the website about their Knock Out Cup match replay against Desborough Town and how he feels the team has played in recent weeks:

"The lads have done well over the last couple of months, and we've got ourselves in the mix, by winning 10 out of 12 in the league. We won a dour battle on Saturday, which was pleasing, and again winning after going behind shows great character from the team" he adds

"On Tuesday we go to Desborough, to replay a league cup tie. The timing of this fixture is obviously not ideal, we will be resting certain players with one eye on Saturdays fixture in the FA Vase at FC Clacton. However, we will still go there with the intention of winning the game. We will bring crowd favourites Dan Moyes, Lloyd Howard and Leon Schwier into the side. Conor Washington, Ricky Dear and Will Fordham will not be used and we have question marks over Ozie Foster, and David Kilby is obviosuly cuptied.... We have a really strong squad and bringing in these lads will not weaken the team at all. We will hope for progression to play Wootton in the next round, without picking up any injuries.'
