Saturday 17th July 2010 - Pre Season Friendly
Alconbury 0 St Ives Town Reserves 2 Report by Ricky Byrne With a very new look side and five under 18's players amongst the squad this was always going to be an unsure test and a sign of things to come. But the nerves were soon settled when the match got going and there were some very encouraging performances from a side that were unfamiliar with each other.
After 25 mins, the Saints took the lead after some good passing between George Large (who celebrates his 16th birthday today) and Josh Sadler who ran through to slot home past the keeper.
Three minutes later it was Josh Sadler's turn to be the provider form a corner, which was headed out by an Alconbury defender, but a fantastic volley by Nick Wateley made it 2 0.
In the second half the Saints should have had a few more goals to add to their tally but it wasn't to be with Joe Kenney coming closest after hitting the woodwork.
Special mention has to go to the under 18 players Alex Henley, Tyler Griffett, George Large, Dan Sewell, and Harry Williams all of whom staked their claim to be regular reserve team players and hopefully one day future first teamers.
Our next game is a very tough test away to local rivals Huntingdon Town Reserves on Thursday 29th July KO 7.00pm |
