Thursday 29th July 2010 - Pre Season Friendly

Huntingdon Town Res 1 St Ives Town Res 1

The Saints Reserves remained unbeaten in their pre season run in and after their 2-0 win against Alconbury ten days ago the lads squared up against local rivals; Huntingdon Town and played out a 1-1 draw at Jubilee Park.

With an indifferent first half, both sides struggled to keep the ball down on a hard pitch with the wind playing a big part in both sides plans to play some attractive football. Huntingdon were left to rue their good chances in the first period as the Saints held on to their clean sheet. The second half become more positive for St Ives as their attacking prowess started to show. After 72 minutes they broke the deadlock and after an excellent move on the right hand side by Tyler Grisset, Guiseppe Pistilli and Ryan Potts it was left to 16 year old Anthony Oliver to cleverly chip the advancing keeper to open his account in a Saints shirt.

In a typical derby match the feistiness of the match showed and after a short delay the home side levelled things with a neat 20 yard effort that left the young Saints keeper no chance to save.

For St Ives it was an excellent evening for another reason as they fielded no fewer than 7 under 18 players in a bid to continue promoting the youth in more senior football, which is a credit to the new management duo of Gary Tharme and Ricky Byrne.
