TOWN MUST WAIT FOR TITLE !

The champagne stayed on ice at Communications Park on 17th April as Daventry Town saw a two goal lead slip through their grasp in a second half Sleaford fightback which earned a 3-2 win for the visitors. It looked plain sailing for Daventry early on as they took a two goal lead through Ryan Howell and Tom Berwick but the dismissal of Arron Parkinson left the champions elect a man down and second half goals from Temi Ajimoko, substitute Scott Wilson and Ryan Oliver, with a last minute winner, kept the title race alive until Wednesday at least.

St Ives Town vs Bourne Town

This week of football has seen two fantastic wins for the First Team and today Warren Everdell & Jez Hall's men will be looking to make it maximum points against their Lincolnshire opponents. The Wakes make the journey to St Ives off the back of a Tuesday night defeat to champions elect Daventry Town. Bourne Town are now clear of the relegation dogfight and looking to frustrate the Saints once again as they did in the reverse fixture in March.

Co Manager; Warren Everdell spoke to the website : "Yes we have a final on Tuesday night but we are concerntrating on getting three points this afternoon which is important to us. We need to go into Tuesday night's game with a run of three wins under our belts"

Why not come down and watch the Saints make it 3 wins from 3 for this week, just in time for the KO League Cup Final next Tuesday !

Before today's match with Bourne Town, Saints skipper; Will Fordham talked to the website to give us his insight into what is happening right now.

"For me I think this season has been very similar to last years with all the early promise and again the volume of fixtures has taken its toll on our very small squad, only by winning the cup on Tuesday can we then feel like we have achieved this year. Before the season started we were all in anticipation that we could challenge for the title but with us challenging on all fronts it has been a sideways in my opinion......

Friday 16th April 2010 - Easter Junior Cup 1/4 Final

St Ives Town U18 6 Soham Town Rangers U18 2

Conor Washington may steal some headlines in this Junior Cup Quarter Final, for his hat trick, but it was the spirited Saints perfromance that will gain the plaudits from the 125 supporters watching on the sidelines. Soham, with their youngest squad in action last night played some good football but the strike power of the Saints was too much for them to deal with at times. Goals coming from Washington 3, Neil McPhee 2 and Tom Sparks. Saints now face a trip to Burnham Ramblers in the Semi Final.

Saints Chairman; Ashley Griffiths is urging all Saints supporters to venture down to Westwood Road this evening. He added "These young lads have done well this season and have shown a marked improvement in recent months so they deserve a good crowd watching them so it would be great if we saw 100+ there to see our lads win"

Thursday 15th April 2010 - UCL Reserve Division Two

ON Chenecks Res A-A St Ives Town Res

Last night's Reserve Division Two match for the Saints was abandoned after only 55 minutes due to poor light. The scheduled kick off was for 6.30pm but due to heavy traffic the Saints arrived in time for a 7pm start. With an agreed shorter playing time both sides and the officials tried to play but it was too dark to continue. After the game Saints Manager; Wayne Singh spoke to the website "It was a very frustrating evening for us really as we had set off in good time but due to heavy traffic this meant that we were delayed" he added "I respect that everyone did what they could to keep the game going but we had to succumb to the elements. We were losing 4-0 when we stopped but we had some great chances early on to score but just didnt take them!"

"What a difference a win makes!"

The Saints recorded their first league win since December 2009 to set up a dramatic finish to the season and potentially a run of unbeaten games ahead of next Tuesday's KO Cup Final against Newport Pagnell Town.

Tonight saw the return of several key personnel in the ranks as the Saints and the Bucks played out an enertaining match in front of an expectant crowd of supporters. The game started well for St Ives with Foster and Conor Washington looking dangerous with every attack. After 23 minutes Dan Moyes saw a ball played neatly into his feet and he created space to drive home low and hard beating Olly Urquhart in the Buckby goal. Long Buckby drew level after 32 minutes when centre half Mark Hewitt rose above the rest to glance his header into the bottom corner. With the scores level at half time and the next goal likely to be the winner Ozie Foster stepped up immediately after the restart to strike a low free kick into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 to the home side.

As both sides entertained both keepers were kept busy and Rob MacKney in the Saints goal thwarted the Bucks attack on several occasions. In the dying minutes, as the ball dropped to Ben Foster inside the six yard box, he blazed what people thoughts was his effort well over the bar but it was a reaction save from MacKney that enables the Saints to take all three points this evening.

After the game a delighted Jez Hall spoke to the website and said "We fielded a stronger squad tonight and it showed at times. All the lads wanted the win tonight and you could see that in their faces before they went out to warm up. The last three perfromances have been good but we played slightly differently tonight and went all out to get three points" Hall's co manager Wareen Everdell added "Tonight was all about whether or not the lads wanted to put things right, They did that and I am very pleased for them all"

St Ives Town : MacKney, Quy, Hall, Fordham, Newman, Dear, Bannister, Rogers (Lewis), Moyes, Foster(Blackwell), Washington (Hurst).

Saints Reserves made the trip over to Rushden & HIgham this evening and came back to St Ives with all three points. Matt Byrne was credited with the man of the match vote and Iwan Lewis manged to get the all important goal to seal a 1-0 win.

Tuesday 13th April 2010 - UCL Premier Division

St Ives Town vs Long Buckby

The Saints go into tonight's game looking to show the kind of first half form that they showed league leaders Daventry Town on Saturday albeit the home side ran out 3-0 winners maybe something positive to come from the game was how the lads rallied round to help each other. Tonight's game will certainly be a tough one and our visitors league position does not lie. Long Buckby suffered a 5-1 beating away at St Neots on the weekend and played out a goalless draw with Newport Pagnell earlier in the week so maybe these two games have taken its toll on the Northamptonshire club.

Be sure to come and watch this evening and cheer on the Saints in their quest for a valuable three points and a morale boosting win.

Playing three games a week has become a regular occurance, in the past few years, for the Saints as we face the business end to the 2009/10 season in the UCL Premier Division. With 9 games left to play and with only 20 days left of the current season these games are still coming thick and fast and this week is certainly no different. Westwood Road will be busy this week with games being played on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon. Next Tuesday sees the Saints make the trip over to Cogenhoe United's ground for the Final of the UCL Knockout Cup where we will face Newport Pagnell Town. This is our last chance of silverware for the season and we are expected to take a massive following across for this final.
