UCL Premier Division Update

Ther battle for first place is hotting up and its only the third week of the new season but with Newport Pagnell Town leading the way on goal difference the Saints of St Neots and newcomers Kings Lynn Town are right behind with all three sides sharing 12 points. An amazing 38 goals were scored in today's premier Division making it one of the highest scoring days in UCL history.

Two goals in the second half by Long Buckby was enough to compile more misery on the Saints in front a hopeful Saints support of 122 at Westwood Road this afternoon.

Westwood Road and the Saints host 5th place Long Buckby in this afternoons Premier Division match in front of anticipated large attendance with the Saints looking to put things right after two recent losses to Cogenhoe United and Northampton Spencer. Buckby arrive this afternoon with two wins under their belt against new comers; Kings Lynn Town and Cogenhoe United.

Saints Co Manager; Jez Hall spoke to the website last night "Saturday was disappointing and then it was made worse by losing on Tuesday to Spencer but both Warren and I believe we can turn things round" he added "Buckby will never roll over and we have had some great games in the past and after Thursday nights training session the lads seem up for it"

Race Night / 70's Disco Postponsed

Due to poor ticket sales in the past few weeks a decision has been made to postponed the upcoming event for this Saturday to a later date in the year. Anyone who has already purchased a ticket will be given a full refund on Saturday during the Saints home match versus Long Buckby.

The new date for this event will be announced in due course first here on the website. On behalf of the football club we would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to any supporter.

St Ives Town bowed out at the early stages of the FA Cup this afternoon to UCL Premier Division opponents Cogenhoe United in a game which saw the Saints parade new signing Dan Matson in front of the expectant home support but only to see him leave the field of play with a serious knee injury.

Saturday 14th August 2010 - FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round

Westwood Road once again hosts this FA Cup tie between these two UCL Premier Division sides and with the winning side hosting the next round at home in two weeks time there is an added incentive for these sides to win. The Saints who have won and lost in the league are up against a United side who drew their first match away to PNS and then smashed 5 past Rothwell Corinthians on Tuesday evening. A full match report will be submitted to the Saints website soon after the game. Saints welcome Dan Matson to the squad alonsige Conor Washington but they will be without Tom Thrale after a broken arm in midweek will keep him out for several weeks.

The Saints Reserves kick off their league campaign tomorrow with a trip to Rushden and Higham. Saints Co Manager; Ricky Byrne spoke to the website this evening "We have prepared well for this game and both Gary and I are looking forward to getting the league underway" More reports and reactions will be found on the website later on Saturday evening.

Striker Dan Matson signs for the Saints

Saints Co Manager was delighted, this afternoon, to announce the latest player to join the Saints squad for this season. Dan Matson has joined St Ives Town and the 24 year old can list Grantham, Spalding, Boston United and Peterborough United as his former clubs. Hall spoke to the website earlier today "This is a great signing for us and I belive he will fit into the squad very nicely" he added "Dan will go straight into the squad for Saturday's FA CUp match versus Cogenhoe United"

Season so Far by Andy Smith 

Loyal supporter; Andy Smith gives us his viewpoint on the defeat against Newport Pagnell and the impact on the season so far for the Saints.

"Pagnell as always, a very robust side, with in all good teams an excellent spine from goalkeeper to centre halves, midfield and forwards. First half was fairly even. Loss of first goal to seemingly a free header from a corner kick was disappointing but thrown a lifeline via Westwood Road bobble for handball penalty decision. Felt for Carl who has had an impressive pre-season etc and thriving on starts. Pagnell then largely dictated remainder of second half and looked comfortable. Killer second goal with 10 minutes to go perhaps a little youthful naievity but mens football at this level a learning curve. Management team should not be despondent in any way as long season. Lee Ellisons absence a major factor as his pure prescence would have stemmed pagnells combative style"

Tonight's Under 18 friendly match, at Westwood Road, has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

In an email from our visiting club it stated "there has been a catalogue of misfortunes resulting in Rushden & Higham being unable to get a team to St Ives" for this evenings match. Further fixture announcements for the youth team will be posted on the Saints website in the coming days.

The young guns of St Ives Town are back in action this evening when they host Rushden & Higham at Westwood Road for this pre season friendly. Saints Assistant Manager; Steve Small told the website "It seems a long time ago since the lads played and they have been working hard in training and it will cdertainly good to back in the swing of things" he added "I hope to see a good turn out in support of the lads also"
