Bromsgrove Sporting V St Ives Town FC-Match Preview

Date: Saturday 6th September

Location: The UK Electrical Stadium

Ives return to league action following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Berkhamsted, which saw them bow out of the FA Cup at the First Qualifying Round, as they travel to Worcestershire to take on Bromsgrove Sporting.

Manager Ricky Marheineke’s men have endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 campaign, with a tricky fixture list leading to Ives sitting in 17th place in the Southern League Premier Division Central, having amassed 5 points from the same number of games.

Whilst it may seem obvious that Ives will be looking to put some much needed points on the board, a win against Bromsgrove would also represent Ives’ first away points of the season, with defeats against Barwell and Harborough Town making it a difficult start to their travelling campaign.

Despite some difficulties on the pitch, the Ives faithful will be buoyed by the news that ahead of the game, the club announced that they have completed the loan signing of George Munday. The 18 year-old signs from Cambridge United and returns to Ives having spent the back end of last season playing in Marheineke’s side, contributing important goals which saw Ives stay in the division for another season.

Munday will be available for selection for Saturday’s fixture and could end up making his first appearance in a black and white shirt since the last game of the 2024/25 season against Stratford Town.

Bromsgrove Sporting

Similarly to Ives, The Rouslers have also endured a shaky start to the 2025/26 league season, with their only points coming in a 2-1 win away at Alvechurch on match day two. Defeats against Bishop’s Stortford, Spalding United, Needham Market and Redditch United have meant that manager Scott Adey-Linforth’s side sit in the relegation zone after five games.

They have also announced a new addition to their ranks prior to kick off, with Bromsgrove announcing on Tuesday that Richard Batchelor will be joining the club as Assistant Manager.  He was most recently in a player-assistant manager role at Alvechurch before making the switch to Sporting.

They come into this game having also exited the FA Cup at the First Qualifying Round as Sporting were defeated 5-2 by Evesham United.  Speaking after the game, Adey-Linforth said his side “need a reaction,” ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

Last Time Out

The last time these two sides met was back in March in a high-scoring affair which saw the visitors take all three points as Ives were beaten 3-2 at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. Two early Sporting goals were cancelled out by efforts from Josh Allen in the 28th minute and then Will Glennon in the 49th minute, before Carter Lycett scored deep into added time at the end of the game to snatch a dramatic late win.
