Ives suffer narrow defeat at Harborough
St Ives Town suffered a narrow 1-0 reverse at Harborough Town on Tuesday night. Games between the two sides have been a regular occurrence in recent seasons, but this was a warm-up ahead of the Bees debut in the National League North whilst the Ives are preparing for life in the PitchingIN Northern Premier League Midlands.
Ives had the first chance of the game when an effort forced a good save from Alex Fisher in the Harborough goal. The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock when an 18th minute effort from Terrell Pennant – who scored a wonder goal when the two teams last met in April – went just over the bar.
The home side continued to press for an opening, and it was Pennant again who got a real sight of goal on the stroke of half-time when his effort forced a good save from Jonah Gill.
The Ives went close shortly after the restart and Fisher was on hand to save a good effort from the visitors.
But eight minutes into the second half, Harborough took the lead when Sam Osborne bundled home from an effort from Danny Newton.
Ives came close to an equaliser and had an opportunity with 20 minutes to go when the ball went narrowly wide of the target. Meanwhile, Gill was called into action late on to prevent the hosts from doubling the lead.
Ives are next in action on Saturday when they host Cambridge United Under 23’s at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
