Richens makes Sports switch
St Ives Town Football Club can confirm that club captain Michael Richens has departed the club and has signed for Peterborough Sports.
Michael or ‘Richo’ has been with the club for the last five years and has been an instrumental presence during that time. Despite missing the 2024/25 campaign with injury, he fought his way back to fitness and became a key member of the Ives squad last season.
A fan’s favourite, he has led by example and has often collected awards at the end of each season. However, with the Ives now preparing for step four football, and with the playing budget being significantly reduced, the option to retain Michael at the club was always going to be restricted.
Commenting on his departure, Ives Manager Ricky Marheineke said “Michael has been a fantastic servant to the club and although we are sad to see him leave, we understand his reasons and wish him the very best of luck in his new chapter. He has put his heart and soul into captaining the team through some really difficult and challenging times. Richo has always remained loyal and contributed with not only outstanding performances, but some really important goals and we wish him all the very best for the future.”
