St Ives Town V A.F.C Sudbury-Match Preview
Date: Monday 8th September 2025
Location: Quattro-tech Westwood Road
Ives will be looking to build on their impressive performance against Bromsgrove Sporting on Monday night as they prepare to host A.F.C Sudbury, in the Saints’ only scheduled home game of the month.
Monday’s hosts will be buoyed by their outing in Worcestershire two days prior to this fixture, with a ruthless display in front of goal securing a 4-0 victory on the road and a huge three points for manager Ricky Marheineke’s side.
The win also provided the opportunity for two Ives forwards to open their goal scoring accounts for the season, with Amir Hadi and Jamal Adams both finding the back of the Sporting net. Adams, who was a handful throughout, made his full competitive debut for Ives on the day and repeat performances like the one we saw Saturday will make sure that it will be the first of many for the 25-year-old.
The attention however now turns to Monday night’s fixture against A.F.C Sudbury and speaking in his programme notes, the Ives boss touched on what has transpired in the last few weeks and how his side will approach the challenge of hosting this Sudbury side.
“Amazing what a win can do in football. From the low of last week and exiting the FA Cup with a whimper, and then the highs of three points on Saturday.
“Everyone is determined to do their best to back it up against a good Sudbury side, who like ourselves have had a big rebuild in the closed season.”
Monday night’s clash may also see the possibility of a first Ives appearance for the returning George Munday, who didn’t make an appearance in Saturday’s game despite being included in the travelling squad. Munday was signed on loan from Cambridge United towards the back end of last week and is currently on reduced minutes as he continues to recover from an injury.
The Ives faithful will be hoping that the acquisition of Munday will bolster their current attacking options and help propel Ives up the table and away from danger this season. Marheineke’s men come into this match in 11th place having picked up eight points from their opening six league games.
A.F.C Sudbury
The Yellows have endured a tricky start to their Southern League Premier Division Central campaign, with the Suffolk-based side having lost four of their opening six league games. However, they come into this game against Ives on the back of a dramatic late win against Banbury United, which will do their confidence the world of good as they make the short trip to Cambridgeshire.
Sudbury manager Danny Laws was faced with the challenge of having to replace some key men they lost in the summer, with the likes of Joe Neal and Tom Dickens moving onto pastures new having been instrumental in securing their sides’ survival in step 3 last season.
As a result, Monday’s opponents have been very active in the transfer market right up until the eve of this encounter, with Yellows on Friday announcing the signing of midfielder Fin Corrigan on their official club website. Time will tell whether the recruitment strategy will be enough to keep Sudbury in the division for another year.
Last Time Out
The last time these two teams faced off was back in March where Ives succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the Quattro-tech Westwood Road. Jernade Meade’s 37th minute effort was cancelled out by three goals from the Suds that made sure they ran out deserved winners in what was a huge win in their bid for survival. The defeat for Ives left them just three points above the drop with five games remaining.
