St Ives Town V Alvechurch-Match Preview
Manager Ricky Marheineke’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league as they prepare to host Alvechurch on Saturday afternoon.
Ives come into this contest on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bury Town in mid-week, with the visitors leaving Bury St Edmunds emptyhanded despite a dominant second half performance, which included a missed penalty and a stellar performance between the sticks for Blues keeper Charlie Beckwith.
Despite still having not picked up an away win yet in this campaign, Ives’ home record so far this season has been solid, with Marheineke’s men yet to taste defeat at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road, whilst managing to keep four clean sheets in the process.
This game represents Ives’ last league game for a few weeks, with the focus switching to Huntingdonshire Senior Cup and FA Trophy action in the next fortnight, before they return to league action with a trip to Latimer Park to face Kettering Town on Saturday November 1st .
Ives come into this fixture against Alvechurch 13th in the Southern League Premier Division Central table following their defeat at Bury on Tuesday night. They sit seven points behind Saturday’s opponents, who also tasted mid-week defeat, losing 4-3 at home to league new boys Quorn.
Alvechurch
The Church will have begun the season with aspirations of improving upon the points tally they managed to rack up in last season’s campaign, whilst continuing to consolidate their place in step three. Manager Tim Flowers’ side have certainly made a great start in achieving that goal, with the Worcestershire-based outfit currently occupying third position in the division, a solitary point off frontrunners Harborough Town.
Previous to their recent defeat at the hands of Quorn, Church had been on an impressive unbeaten run in the league, with Flowers’ men picking up wins against Kettering Town, Bury Town, Halesowen Town and Royston Town in a golden five game stretch.
They also make the trip to Cambridgeshire having not lost away from home so far this season, picking up three wins and two draws on their travels.
Last Time Out
The last time these two sides faced off was back in February when goals from two of Ives’ new signings George Munday and Habib Makanjuola were enough to pick up a big three points against an-inform Alvechurch side at the Quattro-Tech Westwood Road. Ammar Dyer opened the scoring early on in proceedings, with all the scoring in the game taking place in the first 20 minutes.
